YouTube Conspiracy Theory Links Katy Perry to JonBenet Ramsey Murder

A YouTube video from 2014 has gone viral, and on it claims pop megastar Katy Perry is actually JonBenet Ramsey, the victim of a gruesome unsolved child murder from the 1990s.

Of all the conspiracy theories out there, it's hard to see why someone would choose the "Roar" singer as part of one, but, to paraphrase Game of Thrones, the Internet is dark and full of terrors.

The claim made by a guy named Dave Johnson in the original video, which was posted back in December 2014, suddenly went viral this week. On it, Johnson, who doesn't show his face in a clip of numerous photo comparisons between little Ramsey and Perry as well as their respective sets of parents, claims that "all of these people are liars," saying Ramsey, who was a children's beauty pageant regular, is still alive and went on to become the pop star.

Ramsey's murder, on Christmas Day 1996 in Boulder, Colorado, remains one of the most haunting cases in recent U.S. history. After her parents Patsy and John Ramsey told the police their daughter had been kidnapped, authorities found her body in their basement.

An investigation ensued, and there's still no conclusive evidence -- the main suspects for years, the victim's parents and brother Burke, were in fact exonerated of the crime in 2008, after an exam with new DNA technology showed none of them were involved in her death.

Unconvinced of Ramsey being dead at all, even though it's been almost 20 years since the late 1996 murder, Johnson claims she wasn't even hurt, but the whole thing was a façade so she'd become a bigger name in her adult years.

"JonBenet Ramsey did not die, nobody died, nobody got hurt," says Johnson. "That sacrifice was in name only, and that sacrifice was to get something, and that something was to become a star."

Snopes.com reports that Johnson is no stranger to say one famous person is actually another one, and he's made a YouTube career out of confusing theories of the sort. Other claims include that Joe Biden is Donald Trump and denying that people were killed in the American Civil War.
