X-Men: Days of Future Past director Brian Singer took to his Twitter account to once again announce news of a new cast member for his 2014 film. This time, however, he announced a character that would also be featured in The Avengers 2. Evan Peters, best known for his work on "American Horror Story," will portray Quicksilver, a mutant gifted with super speed and the son of Magneto. Whether or not Peters will appear in both films has yet to be determined, but this news is pretty big either way.
Along with his twin sister, Scarlett Witch, Quicksilver became a member of the Avengers in the Marvel comics universe. Recently, director Joss Whedon announced that these twins would be in the sequel to the 2012 super hero hit. What is interesting is that Marvel Studios will produce Avengers 2 while X-Men is being produced by FOX. These are rival production companies, so having a character in each film could be groundbreaking or maybe just awkward.
Marvel Studios president of production, Kevin Feige, recently addressed this conundrum. He said:
"We both have [Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch]. There's a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with 'Avengers,' but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto's relatives, but cannot have anything to do with 'The Avengers.'
So it looks like Peters could possibly show up in both movies. What a great break for the television star!
Here is Brian Singer's casting announcement of Quicksilver, where he directly addresses the Avengers situation a bit:
Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.
