Giancarlo Stanton was an unknown newcomer not so long ago, but now, as well as becoming one of the biggest stars in the MLB, he is now up there with the best-paid athletes in world sport. He has signed a $325M, 13-year-contract with the Miami Marlins, and owner Jeffrey Loria has hailed his star. Stanton will now move alongside stars such as Floyd Mayweather, Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Matt Ryan and Roger Federer, but will the Marlins live to regret this deal, and could it bring a salary cap to the MLB?
Stanton's now the future of the Marlins, and Loria was delighted, despite it costing his team millions of dollars. He explained, "I'm happy for the city, I'm happy for him and I'm thrilled for baseball. Besides being a terrific athlete, he's a first-class young man. I've loved watching him play, but I love this kid. He's just a special young man."
This stunning deal has now moved him in to the elite sportsmen earners:

Will this HUGE deal cause a reevaluation over whether the MLB needs a salary cap or not? If this deal is to be broken, then perhaps things might start to get out of control.
