Aretha Franklin gives Beyonce's inaugural performance a few chuckles for her lip-synched version of The Star Spangles Banner. A rep from the US Marine Corp Band had confirmed early this week that Beyonce used a prerecorded version for the Obama inauguration ceremony and the legendary Franklin said that she just "cracked up."

The "Respect" singer first performed My Country, 'Tis of Thee at the President Obama's first inauguration in 2009 and still commends the young singer on her performance and says she did a "did a beautiful job." Franklin said when she first heard the news of what Beyonce did, she laughed at the critics and sympathizes with Beyonce's smart choice, "When I heard the news this evening that she was pre-recorded I really laughed. I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather."

Franklin added, "When I heard that I just really cracked up." The 70-year-old continued, "I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record ... next time I'll probably do the same."

Not sure if she was adding a couple jabs at the pop star shedding light that she didn't want to use a pre-recording during the monumental event, "I wanted to give people the real thing" and that "pre-recording never crossed my mind." However, the says she did do it during her national anthem performance suring the 2004 NBA final, "I think it's optional really, it's up to the artist," she added.

The ceremony on Monday was held on Martin Luther King Jr Day, which had particularly poignancy for Franklin, who knew the late civil rights leader.
