Sylvester Stallone made an appearance on Monday's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, revealing that a hard punch from Dolph Lundgren previously landed him in the hospital for four days. The 69-year-old actor was on the late night show promoting his new film Creed when he admitted that Lundgren nearly killed him while filming Rocky IV.

Stalllone told Fallon the strongest punch he had ever received was from his Rocky IV costar, 6-foot-5 Lundgren, during a fight scene.

He told the host he had to be airlifted to a hospital and spent four days there due to his injuries. The actor joked, "He hit me so hard in the chest that the next thing I knew I was on a low-altitude flight to intensive care at St. John’s Hospital surrounded by four nuns."

In the movie Creed, Stallone reprises his role as Rocky Balboa who agrees to train the son, Adonis Johnson (played by Michael B. Jordan), of his former rival and late friend Apollo Creed.

Stallone said Jordan was initiated into the Rocky film by having to take a punch. He shared a video from the set of the film that shows Jordan being knocked out with a single punch by "Pretty" Ricky Conlan.

Stallone explained to Fallon, "When a real pro hits you, it isn’t like you see in these bar-room brawls or Westerns with a big punch. It’s just 'boom' and next thing you know you are talking to angels."

Stallone recently spoke to Deadline about originally turning down Creed's co-writer and director Ryan Coogler's offer to make the movie. He said it took Coogler two years to talk him into doing the film.

Coogler's persistence paid off, with Stallone explaining, "There was just something about this kid, who was very, very physical in his manner, but sensitive and emotional.

"It kind of reminded me…of me, truth be told. So I finally said, 'You know what? Someone took a chance on me, once.' I’m just going to throw caution to the wind and let him run with it."
