In addition to these roles, Stenberg has been in recent headlines with the release of her viral video, "Don't Cash Crop My Cornrows" in which the 17-year-old speaks on the inappropriate appropriation of Black hair/Black culture.

In her interview with the talented songstress and sister of Beyoncé Knowles, Stenberg opens up about issues like the outrage that sparked from her character Rue, to hair, to her new comic book--Niobe: She Is Life.

Stenberg refers to the controversy around her character on the Hunger Games as the starting point to her dedication to embrace her beauty as a Black woman.

"When I was 12 and I got cast in The Hunger Games, and people called me the N-word and said that the death of my character, Rue, would be less sad because I was black. That was the first moment I realized being black was such a crucial part of my identity in terms of the way that I was perceived and how it would affect any line of work that I wanted to pursue," said Stenberg.

In addition to having this real conversation with Solange about girl power and their shared Black experience, Stenberg also took over Teen Vogue's Snapchat to share some additional thoughts. Stenberg spoke candidly about the importance of being true to your being and the benefit of fair representation of positive Black images in media.
