David Bowie Death: Celebrities Mourn 'Ziggy Stardust' in Touching Social Media Tributes

David Bowie was one of the most iconic people in music and film, a legend from an era, so it's hardly a surprise that so many people feel touched by his sudden death. Now, celebrities from his son Duncan Jones to the likes of Madonna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney and even the Prime Minister of the UK David Cameron mourn "Ziggy Stardust."

Few people were as influential to music and pop culture as Bowie was, and in his decades of work he worked with some of the biggest and most important names in show business and befriended many others.

One of the stars who led tributes towards the legendary artist were John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, who shared that after the Beatle passed away, Bowie always stood by the family and even took Sean Lennon out for walks when he was in boarding school in Switzerland.

Lennon's Beatle pal, McCartney, took to his social media as well as his website, sharing a sweet message about his years knowing Bowie, saying he'd "always remember the great laughs" they shared.

Madonna took to Twitter to share a snap from Bowie's iconic Ziggy Stardust, saying the first concert she'd ever seen was in fact Bowie's, in Detroit. West, on the other hand, called Bowie one of his "most important inspirations."

British Prime Minister Cameron also chimed in called Bowie "a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right."

Possibly the most touching of all tributes came from Bowie's close friend and fellow music legend Brian Eno, who shared details of the last e-mail he received from the singer.

"I received an email from him seven days ago. It was as funny as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did," wrote Eno in a statement to BBC. "It ended with this sentence: 'Thank you for our good times, brian. they will never rot'. And it was signed 'Dawn'. I realise now he was saying goodbye."
