Sean Penn Finally Opens Up About "El Chapo" Interview on 60 Minutes

Sean Penn has graced our television sets with interesting news on why he decided to conduct an interview for Rolling Stone magazine with the fugitive Mexican drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in Sinaloa. Penn admitted to CBS's 60 Minutes correspondent Charlie Rose that the interview was set up by Mexican actress Kate del Castillo. But make no mistake, Penn wanted to do what he calls an "experimental jounalism" and to somehow, address or tackle the policy on drugs.

"I don't have to be the one that reports on the alleged murders or the amount of narcotics that are brought in. I go and I spend time in the company of another human being, which everyone is. And I make an observation and try to parallel that, try to balance that with the focus that we-- that I believe we-- we tend to put too much emphasis on," says Penn.

Charlie Rose tried to grasp why the actor wanted to interview the alleged kingpin in the first place. Penn explained in so many words that he didn't pay much attention to the suffering that goes on, nor the laws that show "no progession," and says he's "looking the other way."

One question that may have been on the minds of Americans is, how did Penn get to Guzman? The Daily Mail reveals that after years of communication with Del Castillo, the actress managed to convince Guzman to meet with Penn, with hope that he could produce a movie about the life of "El Chapo."

According to CBS reports it finally happened. "In October, Penn, del Castillo and two others travelled by small plane and truck into cartel-controlled territory. They were escorted by one of El Chapo's sons."

The 21 Grams actor assumes that the Mexican government knew about his scheduled visit and says, "We didn't f-- we're not smarter than the DEA or the Mexican intelligence. We had contact upon which we were able to facilitate an invitation that allowed us in."

Another interview was scheduled but was cancelled. El Chapo recorded his answers to Penn's questions, due to the intensity of the manhunt. The cartel leader was recaptured one day before the article was released and allegedly, Penn and Del Castillo are wanted for questioning by the Mexican authorities.

Standby for Kate Del Castillo's story. She took to twitter to announce that she'll tell her version soon!
