Bollywood's 3 Idiots was released back in 2009. The coming of age dramedy film was written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The film featured an ensemble cast of Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bomban Irani and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films in its opening weekend in India and had the highest opening day collections for an Indian film up until that point. Now there are reports that Rajkumar is planning a sequel to this blockbuster film, but no one knows whether we get to see the reunion of cast from the first part or not.

Rajumkar is currently busy in promoting his upcoming film Saala Khadoos starring R. Madhavan and a newcomer Ritika Singh. During a promotional event, when a reporter asked him about his take on a possible sequel to PK and 3 Idiots, the director said that he has plans to make a sequel to 3 Idiots but it will take some time. Rajkumar was quoted by Catch News as responding:

"Initially, I had plans to make PK 2, but we don't have any subject for the film. As far as 3 Idiots sequel is concerned, Abhijat (Joshi) and I have a germ (idea), but we are yet to develop it. The film will take some time."

R. Madhavan, who has also produced Saala Khadoos, also confirmed that Rajkumar and his writer, Abhijat Joshi, are working on a 3 Idiots sequel and he will definitely be a part of it.

"Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi have a concept ready for the '3 Idiots' sequel, but there has not been any progress in it. Whenever it happens, I will be a part of it."

3 Idiots has already been remade in Tamil language as Nanban, which also received critical praise and commercial success. Times of India reported that there will be a Chinese remake of the film produced by Stephen Chow and that there are also plans for a Hollywood remake.
