Nicholas Wiltgen, 39 of the Weather Channel Dies in Alleged Suicide Parking Garage Crash

The Weather Channel has lost one of its own. MStars News has learned that 39-year-old Nicholas Wiltgen died Sunday after he crashed his car through an Atlanta parking garage wall smashing into a hotel next door. It was ruled to be an act of suicide.

According to The Wrap, the Weather Channel meteorologist's death was ruled to be a suicide by the Fulton County Medical Examiner in Georgia.

In the medical examiner's statement, it was revealed that Wiltgen died in Atlanta, Georgia from major head and brain injury when he drove his car through the concrete wall of a parking garage.

"The cause of death is craniocerebral trauma and the manner of death has been classified as suicide," the statement read.

AJC reported that one witness saw Wiltgen's car going at a high speed running into the parking deck wall. Atlanta police spokeswoman, Kim Jones, revealed that his car traveled about 20 feet into the air crashing into the W Atlanta-Midtown hotel beside the deck. Jones also revealed that Wiltgen hit a person. The victim was was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

"Witnesses pulled the [driver] out of the car and attempted CPR," fire department spokesman Cortez Stafford claimed. CPR was unsuccessful.

In a statement, the network said:

"It is with a heavy heart that we have to share some very sad news - we have lost a treasured member of The Weather Channel family. Nick Wiltgen, senior digital meteorologist and integral member of our content team, died last night in a car accident."

The statement continued, "At all hours of the night and day, he would track weather in as many as eight languages. He would work around the clock to make sure we had the latest and most accurate updates to every event. And he would fight tooth and nail to make sure we did everything we could to explain the dangers of bad weather to our viewers. Millions read his work every week. And were better for it. He was the beating heart of our digital weather team. And he will be deeply missed."

Wiltgen worked at the network for over 15 years. RIP
