Beyoncé's "Formation" Lyrics Helped Red Lobster's Sales Go Up 33%

Just like every time Oprah Winfrey endorses something, its sales boost in what has been called "The Oprah Effect." Now it's time for another pop culture icon to take up the mantle. It turns out that after Beyoncé mentioned Red Lobster in the lyrics of her new single, "Formation," the company's sales went up 33 percent -- and the phenomenon is being called the "Beyoncé Bounce."

According to CNN Money, the mega diva, whose latest single was released on the eve of her amazing Super Bowl performance last weekend, is being credited with a major sales boost for the seafood chain.

The track, which deals with police brutality and American black culture and is the first new song Jay Z's wife has released since 2014, basically broke the Internet last weekend --- and its tiny mention of the restaurant chain made it soar in popularity.

Erica Ettori, a spokeswoman for Red Lobster, told the media that following the release of Bey's track, the chain's name was mentioned over 42,000 times over the course of one hour, becoming a trending topic for the first time ever.

So, how did the chain decide to celebrate this landmark moment? With a terrible pun on Twitter about Beyoncé, introducing the possibility of "Cheddar Bey Biscuits," and practically making sure no other megastar ever mentions them for free.

"We had nothing to do with the song and had no advance knowledge of it being released," Kim Lopdrup, Red Lobster's CEO, told USA Today about the "Formation" situation last weekend. "We learned about it by seeing that we were trending as number one on Twitter, which is probably the first time that has ever happened."

Still, other than the tweet from last weekend, Red Lobster employees have been trying to capitalize on their Beyoncé mention, and some of their restaurants are serving items honoring the singer, including a drink called the "Bey Breeze."
