Kesha Denied Exit From Sony Contract -- #FreeKesha Emerges as Twitter Trending Topic

Kesha has been denied exit from her recording contract with Sony.

In October 2014, the pop star filed legal documents against Dr. Luke for "mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault." The singer had hoped to be let out of her contract with Sony, which would allow her to stop working with the producer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Judge Shirley Kornreich of the New York Supreme Court ruled that producer  Dr. Luke's (Lukasz Gottwald) offer to allow the singer to record without his involvement "decimates her argument."

"You're asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry," the judge tells Mark Geragos, Kesha's attorney. 

Kesha was photographed in the courtroom sobbing as the judge read the verdict. Because Sony had agreed to allow the singers to work with other producers, the judge said nullifying Kesha's contract would not be plausible.

Kesha had claimed  Dr. Luke made her snort an unknown substance and raping her while she was drugged. She also claimed to be given something called "sober pills" by the producer before waking up the next day naked in his bed feeling sore and sick with no recollection of what happened.

Dr. Luke has denied Kesha's allegations, and no criminal charges were filed against him.

Many Twitter users have expressed their support for the singer and decrying the judgment. According to VH1, while Kesha appeared in court fans were outside holding up signs showing their support of her. Although the singer is stuck in her contract, her story has generated a conversation about rape culture.
