'X-Men: Apocalypse' Star Sophie Turner Says Teenage Jean Grey Is "Isolated and so Insecure"

Most fans will probably remember Jean Grey as being played by the gorgeous Taken star Famke Janssen. But X-Men: Apocalypse will feature the younger version of the flame-haired mutant, who will be portrayed by Sophie Turner. Janssen's Jean may have been strong and confident, but the Game of Thrones actress has just revealed that her version of the X-Men member isn't very sure of herself!

"The difference between this and Famke's Jean Grey is she's young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated -- even from the other mutants -- because she's so powerful," Turner explained to Entertainment Weekly.

Jean is definitely one of the most powerful mutants in the X-Men universe, but Turner confirms that she finally takes control of her strength with the help of Scott Summers, who is played by Tye Sheridan in Apocalypse.

"There's a real vulnerability to her and it's great to see how her [sic] and Scott find each other through that alienation," she said, adding that she enjoyed playing the fiery-haired mutant.

"She's a great role to play, she's so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing," Turner concluded.

2016 might just be the year that Turner portrays awkward redheads that finally take control of their lives. The actress has previously confirmed that Sansa Stark will be fighting back after several seasons of being used as a pawn in Game of Thrones.

"This season is a really, really big one for Sansa. It's probably her best season yet," Turner told Entertainment Weekly during the recent SAG Awards party. "It's her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it's really good."

While Turner's X-Men: Apocalypse character simply struggles to take control of her powers, her Game of Thrones alter ego has gone through several difficult periods in the past five seasons. After her father Ned Stark (Sean Bean) was beheaded in front of her, Sansa was tormented by Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) before being married off to Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), then is forced to wed the villainous Ramsey Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

X-Men: Apocalypse will premiere on May 27 while the sixth season of Game of Thrones will air on HBO on April 24.
