The highly anticipated American Gods gains yet another talented star as Emily Browning joins the cast of the Starz series. The Sucker Punch actress has just been cast as Shadow Moon's tragic wife Laura in the live-action TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's bestselling novel!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Browning has nabbed the female lead role opposite The 100's Ricky Whittle, who will play Shadow. The Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events star rounds out the three major characters in the series, which also includes Ray Donovan actor Ian McShane as the mysterious Mr. Wednesday.

Laura Moon is one of the most important characters in the Gaiman book since she is somehow the main reason why Shadow ends up working for Mr. Wednesday. According to THR, the character "will go on an unexpected journey that leads her to an epiphany about her relationship [with Shadow] and affords her a second chance to get things right."

27-year-old Browning had her first big break in the horror film Ghost Ship. She has appeared in films like The Uninvited, Pompeii, The Host and Legend.

Browning's casting is already getting some positive response from the American Gods author himself. Gaiman admitted that was "fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events." In addition to that, he said that the actress will definitely enjoy playing Shadow's wife.

"She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one of the page," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "She's going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life."

Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller will join Michael Green as showrunners of American Gods, while David Slade is set to direct the pilot episode. Gaiman will serve as executive producer with Fuller, Green and Slade.
