The second trailer of Captain America: Civil War may have confirmed what fans already know: Tom Holland's Spider-Man is on Team Iron Man. However, directors Anthony and Joe Russo may have just indicated that Peter Parker isn't completely siding up with Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, nor is he going to transfer to Team Captain America. Instead, the webslinger will have a "unique place" in Civil War!

The Civil War co-directors recently spoke to Forbes, where Anthony commented on how Holland's character will fit into the movie.

"I'll say this, part of the fun of Spider-Man is that this film is basically a war amongst the Avengers and Spidey does not have the baggage that all these other characters have," Anthony said, adding that Peter is brought in after the teams have been established.

"He enters the story after the conflict that is happening between the Avengers and that gives him a very unique place in the story," he said.

But was Spider-Man supposed to be a part of Civil War right from the start? Joe confirmed that they have "always intended" to bring the webslinger into the movie. However, it wasn't as easy as it sounds. Anthony explained that it was a long, arduous process to finally get Spider-Man to join the Avengers.

"It was a very complicated deal that Sony had to work out with Marvel Studios and Disney in order to make that work," he said, stating that he and his brother decided not to discuss Holland's appearance as Spidey in Civil War until negotiations were completed.

"We were very quiet about Spider-Man's involvement in the movie for much longer than we would have been," Anthony said, adding that their silence had more to do with respect for the studios than just keeping fans in the dark.

"We were artificially silent on the character because it was such a sensitive business deal still being worked out even while we were shooting," he concluded.

Holland's Spider-Man will swing into action when Captain America: Civil War premieres on May 6.
