Miley Cyrus Twitter: Starlet Calls For Immigration Reform, DREAM Act Passage In Tweet

Taking a break from the Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth gossip (if you're wondering, they've called off their marriage but remain dating), here's some news about Miley that doesn't involve relationship drama. The former Disney star used her substantial Twitter following to make a call for immigration reform.

"Don't waste the talents of undocumented youth. Tell Congress it is time for immigration reform. Sign the petition at ‪https://www.thedreamisnow.org ," Cyrus tweeted.

The tweet has been retweeted over 3,000 times and favorite by 2,000+ users.

The link leads to a site for The Dream is Now, an activist group that is pushing for United States immigration reform, in particular the passage of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (or DREAM) Act.

The bill has been floating around the halls of Congress for over a decade now. It was written by Dick Durbin and Orin Hatch and was introduced to the Senate in August of 2001.

The bill opens up pathways to US citizenship for undocumented immigrants and their children, providing conditional permanent residency to immigrants who arrived in the country as minors, graduated from US high schools and lived in the country for at least five years prior to the bills enactment. Additional pathways would be opened for immigrants who signed up for military service or attended an institution of higher learning.

No federal version of the law has been passed, though Maryland did enact their own state version of the bill late last year.
