Kylie Jenner Claims She Started Wigs and the Internet Explodes
In her recent interview with Marie Claire for the magazine's Fresh Faces issue, Kylie Jenner spoke about her fondness for wigs and her influence on the beauty industry at large. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is in some serious hot water after claiming that she started the trend.
“I started wigs, and now everyone is wearing wigs. Kim (Kardashian) just used my wig guy last night… I just do whatever I want to do, and people will follow,” the 18-year-old girlfriend of Tyga told the magazine.
Jenner is a pretty strong force in the beauty industry right now. From sold-out liquid lipsticks to nail polish to bringing back lip gloss, but there's one thing that people can't give her credit for: wigs.
Her statement is not only incredibly ambitious, but simply not true. The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan may be known for sporting candy colored wigs, but she is surely not the first celebrity to wear one.
Legendary performers like Dolly Parton, Cher and Tina Turner were known for wearing their extravagant hair pieces and stars like Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry also enjoy wearing their outlandish wigs. African American women have been wearing wigs for years and years so Jenner is definitely not the one who started the trend.
This remark just serves as another example of the reality star's influence to the new generation. Who could forget the Kylie Jenner challenge, which Jenner admittedly didn't intend to start. It fueled a craze for plump lips and offended many women of color.
But Jenner denied that she claimed to be the first one to make wigs a thing and responded to the controversy on Twitter on April 11, writing: “When publications switch up your words for hype.. Damn.”
