Is 'Hail, Caesar!' Actor Alden Ehrenreich the New Han Solo in 'Star Wars' Standalone Film?

The wait for the new Han Solo continues, but it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm might already have a favorite on who could possibly take over Harrison Ford's iconic Star Wars role. Although the studios have already narrowed down their list to only three contenders, there have been reports that Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich is proving to be better than Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor at embodying the young Millennium Falcon captain!

According to Deadline, Ehrenreich is currently the frontrunner for the coveted role. If the Blue Jasmine star ends up becoming the next Han Solo, this would mean that Ehrenreich actually beat 2,500 other young hopefuls just to be a stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder.

Ehrenreich may not look a lot like Ford, but the Stoker actor does have a certain rebellious charm that a younger Han would possess. In addition to that, he appears to have some gunslinging skills that he could probably use later on with a blaster. Hopefully, Greedo will not come after him in the Star Wars standalone film, because we know what could happen next.

You can see Ehrenreich in action from the Hail, Caesar! featurette about his character Hobie Doyle below.

Ehrenreich's big break was in the 2009 film Tetro, where his performance led to a second Francis Ford Coppola movie Twixt. He appeared opposite Emmy Rossum in Beautiful Creatures in 2013 and has just finished shooting a still-untitled Warren Beatty flick. Ehrenreich is currently working on The Yellow Birds, which also stars X-Men: Apocalypse actor Tye Sheridan and Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston.

The Han Solo film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller while the script is being co-written by longtime Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. The movie is scheduled for release in 2018.
