'Lord of the Rings' Star Karl Urban Wants 'Dredd' Series for Netflix or Amazon

A sequel to 2012's bloody action flick Dredd might not hit theaters anytime soon, but that doesn't mean that Karl Urban's scowling Judge will not branch out to a stream service or premium cable. The Lord of the Rings star has just found out about a fan petition to bring Dredd 2 to Netflix or Amazon Prime, and his response? "I'd do it!"

Earlier this year, a few fans decided to start a petition for a TV series based on the film starring Urban and Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey. One fan even went as far as creating a mock-up poster for Dredd 2 that would hopefully air on Netflix. As it turns out, Urban discovered the image and immediately tweeted his support for "Awesome Mega city 1 stories!"

A Dredd sequel is something that fans have been looking forward to since Urban's version of the comic book Judge was released in 2012. Unfortunately, Ex Machina director Alex Garland (who wrote the script for Dredd) has stated that it is highly unlikely that another film will be made. Nevertheless, fans continued to rally for Dredd 2.

But is it possible that Ma-Ma will return if Dredd ends up in Netflix or Amazon? Headey's character may have been killed off in the movie, but has proven to be a fan-favorite for the Pride and Prejudice and Zombie star's gritty portrayal of the villain. Hopefully, a Ma-Ma origin story will be part of Dredd 2.

Judge Dredd was originally adapted to live action in 1995, where the character was played by Sylvester Stallone. The 2012 reboot was directed by Pete Travis and also starred Olivia Thirlby.

There is no word yet on whether Dredd will be made into a TV series.
