'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Trailer Gets July Release Date on ABC!

It's been three months since Star Wars fans all over the world got the first glimpse (and fell in love with) rebel with a cause Jyn Erso, played by Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, when the first teaser for Rogue One landed online. Now, Lucasfilm has finally announced the release date for the first full trailer -- and it's next week!

Fan site Making Star Wars recently found the ABC listings for July 15, and it seems there's a 3-minute trailer for Rogue One scheduled for that night. Seeing as that is the day of the Star Wars Celebration in London, fans had already theorized that there'd be new footage of the film then, but this definitely confirms it.

The Rogue One trailer will come as part of a one-hour Star Wars special called Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey, obviously mostly revolving around last year's return to the franchise.

According to Gizmodo io9, there's a chance we'll get the trailer online even before that: the London panel will be at 11 a.m. EDT, and last year, the then-new footage from Force Awakens was made available online immediately after it aired there. So the ABC schedule could just be the first time it airs on television instead of altogether.

Chances are we'll be getting a bit more information about Rogue One, or even the still-untitled Star Wars Episode 8, which will finish shooting later this month.

Rogue One will be set between the original trilogy and the second one: it will revolve around the team of rebels who took the Empire's plans for a new weapon, a thing everyone would know (twice) as the Death Star. Not too long ago, it was revealed that the franchise's most iconic villain, Darth Vader, would be returning, voiced once again by James Earl Jones.

Other actors involved in the film include Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk and Ben Mendelsohn.

The film will be the first one in the planned Star Wars Anthology saga, a new series based on the universe George Lucas created but focusing on other characters and times outside the canon of the past and future trilogies. The spinoffs so far include this one, a stand-alone Han Solo movie (which will star Alden Ehrenreich as a young version of the character created by Harrison Ford) and probably a Boba Fett origin story.

Rogue One will hit theaters on Dec. 16.
