Oh the joys of dating a pop star. But what if you only think you are dating a pop star? Well that is what happened to Spencer Morrill from Knoxville, TN, who thought he had been dating Katy Perry for the last six years. Morrill appeared on the MTV series Catfish to try to get to the bottom of the dating when he thought things seemed a little fishy. When it turned out that he wasn't really the "Rise" singer's boyfriend, he was devastated.

So what did Perry have to say about the whole situation?

The star sympathized with Morrill and found the whole situation very sad.

The 31-year-old singer talked to The Morning Mash Up on SiriusXM earlier this week, on August 23, and said that she knew about the episode and just empathizes with Morrill about the situation.

"Somebody sent me a link," the Teenage Dream singer stated, according to D Listed. "I didn't actually read through it, because I just think it's really unfortunate and really sad."

The host of the radio show didn't seem very sympathetic to Morrill's feelings, as he made a pun at his expense, saying that he must not have been "wide awake," referencing Perry's 2010 hit of the same name, to which Perry wasn't impressed with.

"You know, like, my heart goes out to him actually, because anybody that's been fooled like that or just, you know, people have dreams, and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is always so accessible," the singer stated, according to Entertainment Tonight. "Like, we live on the coast, and we, you know, we get stuff in a way that some other people don't get, and I feel bad for him, and so I didn't really like to indulge in that, because my heart ... I empathize."
