Pink Floyd's graphic artist, Storm Thorgerson, died of cancer yesterday at the age of 69.

Thorgerson designed the very popular cover for Pink Floyd's 1973 album, "The Dark Side of the Moon," which features light being refracted through a prism and is on T-shirts and other kinds of fan memorabilia.  His artwork was also featured in the early days of Led Zeppelin and Genesis, according to Reuters.

He designed the visuals for "Led Zeppelin's 1970s records, 'Presence and In Through the Out Door', Muse's 'Absolution', The Mars Volta's 'De-Loused in the Comatorium', Genesis' 'And Then There Were Three,' Pink Floyd's 'Atom Heart Mother' and 'Wish You Were Here,' and he also worked with Dream Theater, Biffy Clyro and The Cranberries," according to music.msn.com.

In addition to these, Thorgerson has also designed artwork for Phish, Styx, Black Sabbath and Peter Gabriel, according to CBS News.

"People pay me for my thoughts and my dreams. I think in that sense I'm very fortunate." Thorgerson told BBC News in 2010.

In a statement by his family they wrote, "His ending was peaceful and he was surrounded by family and friends. He had been ill for some time with cancer though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003," according to CBS News.

Pink Floyd's David Gilmour posted on his personal website: "He has been a constant force in my life, both at work and in private, a shoulder to cry on and a great friend.  The artworks that he created for Pink Floyd from 1968 to the present day have been an inseparable part of our work.  I will miss him."

The members of Pink Floyd have paid tribute to Thorgerson with a post on their official website, which reads: "We are saddened by the news that long-time Pink Floyd graphic genius, friend and collaborator, Storm Thorgerson, has died. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends."

He is survived by his mother Vanji, his son Bill, his wife Barbie Antonism, and their two children Adam and Georgia.
