Scary Spice Mel B Banned from 'Australia's Got Talent', Related to the X Factor?
Melanie Brown, Scary Spice, has been prevented from appearing on "Australia's Got Talent," or any other rival station due to an exclusive agreement that she has with the Seven Network.
Brown may, however, appear on the Seven Network's, "The X Factor," according to the Australian Associated Press.
Channel Nine had signed her for their reality series, "Australia's Got Talent," (AGT) not knowing that she had an agreement with Seven that prevents her from appearing on Nine or any other Australian network until January 31, 2014, AAP reported.
As a result, Nine now has to find a replacement for her on the judging panel. "We accept the decision and are getting on with business," a spokeswoman from Nine told APP on Thursday.
"Seven Network welcomes the decision of the court upholding its contract with Mel B and preventing her working for a competitor in breach of contract in 2013," a spokeswoman from Seven told AAP on Thursday.
David Hammerschlag, Supreme Court Justice, ruled that Seven Network does indeed have exclusive rights to Brown's television appearances until 2014.
"Under the agreement, Mel has an obligation to provide her exclusive services to Seven, and Seven is entitled to her performance of this obligation. I see no reason why she should not be ordered to keep her word that she would not work for anyone but Seven in Australia in 2013," Hammerschlag ruled, according to the Examiner.
Brown's future with "The X Factor" remains unclear, however Seven claimed in court that is plans to utilize Brown in a limited role, according to TV Guide.
"It's about making sure contracts are honored," and insider at Seven explained to APP. "We could have just let her go, but that would mean the contract doesn't mean anything."
"We accept the decision and are getting on with business," a Nine spokeswoman told AAP on Thursday.
