Seattle Shooting: Five Killed at Apartment Complex in Washington Near Seattle, One Suspect Dead
Five people, including one suspect, were killed on Sunday night at the Pinewood Village apartment complex in a city about 20 miles south of Seattle, WA.
Police officers responded to an emergency call at 9:30 p.m. PDT and arrived on the scene to find gunfire going off, according to ABC.
"When officers arrived there were still shots being fired," Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock told ABC.
"A neighbor reported hearing 20 to 30 gunshots," said CBS affiliate, Kiro TV.
Police at the scene shot a suspect and there seems to be no threat to public safety, authorities say, according to U.S. News.
Investigators said that when officers tried to rescue two men on the ground in the parking lot, one of the men reached for a gun on the pavement and the eight officers opened fire, killing him, according to Kiro TV.
U.S. News reports that, in addition to the suspect who was killed, two men were found dead in the complex parking lot and a man and women were shot and killed in two separate apartment rooms. Police are trying to determine if the woman was hit by a stray bullet, Schrock said, according to ABC.
Kiro TV adds that the incident resulted in eight police officers taking administrative leave. None of them were injured, however, according to ABC. They are simply following standard policy.
"We still don't have any idea what started this disturbance tonight," Schrock said, according to Reuters. She also added that the police believe that everyone involved is now dead and that they would interview witnesses today.
"We're gonna continue to go door to door in hopes that we can find some additional witnesses, and hopefully we won't be finding any more victims," she said, according to NBC affiliate, KING 5.
"At this time, we are not looking for any additional suspects," Schrock said, according to Reuters.
Family members have identified one of the victims as Ceasar Anthony Valdovinos, according to Kiro TV.
