Disney To Begin Summer Season With 3 Parks Open For 24 Hours Straight Starting May 24

Disney theme parks announced this Thursday that on May 24, it will start its "Monstous Summer" season out with 24 hour access to the parks.

Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and both parks in California, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, will be open from 6 a.m. on the 24th until 6 a.m. on the 25th, according to the Examiner.

This 24-hour-long event is the first event in "Monstrous Summer," a promotion inspired by the Disney-Pixar upcoming animated movie, "Monsters University," according to the Examiner.

"This summer, Disney Parks are bursting with a monstrous lineup of new thrills, shows and happenings ... Guests can start Memorial Day Weekend with a 24-hour-marathon of memory-making as three Parks stay open all day and all night to celebrate the bi-coastal kick-off of a Monstrous Summer at Disney Parks," said George Kalogridis, President ofWalt Disney World as he announced the Disney 24-hour opening alongside Monsters, Inc.'s Mike Wazowski, according to the Inquisistr.

Mike will host the event alongside his co-star Sulley, according to the Inquisistr.  They will also be the Grand Marshals of the "Celebrate a Dream Come True" day parade at Florida's Magic Kingdom.  Late-night dance parties are slated for Cinderella Castle, and late at night and early in the morning the characters will traverse the grounds in pajamas to celebrate the fact Disney is open 24 hours consecutively for the first time.

At Epcot, the iconic Spaceship Earth has been transformed into the Disney-Pixar "Eye-con," an 180-foot-tall animated Mike, the one-eyed green monster starring in the new film, according to the Examiner.

There will be other "Monsters University" themed features throughout the park as well including a "Monsters University" "TLT Monstrous" Dance Club, "Star Wars" characters in Tomorrowland, and late-night Character Pajama Party in Mickey's Toontown, the Examiner reports.  Fantasy Faire Royal Theatre will undergo a late-night transformation into the Royal Dance Hall, offering live music and dancing.  Meanwhile, Disney California Adventure will offer photo ops in Hollywood Land that will show off "Monsters University" dorms and the Pixar Play Parade will showcase a new "Monsters University" float.

This "Monstrous Summer event will highlight many of the new additions to the parks, the Examiner reports.  At Walt Disney World, such additions include Magic Kingdom's New Fantasyland and the interactive Pirates Adventure, at Epcot it includes the re-imaged Test Track, at Disney Hollywood Studios' it includes a new Disney Junior Show, and at Disney's Animal Kingdom it includes a Wilderness Explorers activity.

Disneyland Resort will also showcase its new "Mickey and the Magical Map" stage show and the Fantasy Faire's celebration of Disney Princesses at Disneyland Park, according to the Examiner. Disney California Adventure will continue to attract guests to its now-finished expansion, which opened Cars Land and Buena Vista Street last summer.

Disnleyland Resort also announced the event on twitter saying "Breaking: Disneyland, Disney California Adventure will be open for 24 hours on May," according to the Inquisitr.

According to Click Orlando, Disney had a similar event in 2012 to celebrate leap year.
