'Steven Universe' Is Intentionally Leaked, Says CN Representative
Fans of the show "Steven Universe" had their universe flipped and turned as they discovered that the five episodes of the show are available to watch on the Cartoon Network App. The episodes are scheduled to be premiered on Jan 30 7PM EST. It turned out that the leak is intentional for promotional purposes.
On this Reddit thread, people are totally confused and at the same time excited about the supposedly accidental leak of the whole 5 episodes of Steven Universe in the Cartoon Network App. But it seems like the leak is not a leak at all. Steven Universe music composer Aivi Tran confirmed that these leaks are fair game and encourages fans to watch them. She encouraged the fans to watch the episodes on supported sites only. All five episodes are available in the CN App or in the Cartoon Network official website. A Cartoon Network representative told Polygon that this activity has been done to other shows before. It is, in a way, an intentional leak, but Cartoon Network call it "See it first".
"This is actually something we've been doing for some time with a few of our shows through what we call the 'See It First' element of the [Cartoon Network] App," they said.
But it seems like some fans are angry, as they say, the "see it first" feature is very unfair to those who doesn't have a chance to view the episodes on the Cartoon Network App. And not only that, after Cartoon Network took down all episodes but one, which is the "Steven's Dream" they assumed that the company might actually had a mistake. It might be possible that the episode "Steven's Dream" might be the only one intended to be in the "See if first", but the other episodes were accidentally mixed in.
"If you saw the new [Steven Universe] episodes that were mistakenly posted online, I hope you enjoyed them," said Matt Burnett, who's written several episodes of the show. "It was a very fun arc to work on." So if you're one of those lucky (or maybe annoyed) ones who now get all those spoilers, just chill and enjoy the show.
