"Victoria," the new PBS period drama has introduced a very important character in the second episode of its Season 1. The new character named Albert is the man who will become Queen Victoria's (Jenna Coleman) husband. He was the topic of discussion throughout the episode, but he only appeared in the final scene. The role is played by Tom Hughes.

This is just the beginning of his arc, but history is full of spoilers for the period drama and there are few things viewers should know about the future Prince Albert:

Keeping things in the family just like many royals long ago, Victoria marries a family member as Albert is actually her mother's nephew, making him her first cousin.

Putting off marriage, meaning, while everyone around Victoria wanted her to get hitched, the young Queen will not be interested in the prince and would probably say she is not prepared to get married. Yahoo reports that viewers should expect the "Downton Abbey" replacement to show the queen's apprehension.

Everyone around Victoria with the exception of Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell), seemed to want her to marry Albert. Even with such influence, he will not be warmly accepted by all. He was born in Germany, a fact that the British public do not seem to appreciate. The parliament too does not love him and will even argue with Victoria over what kind of allowance Albert should receive.

Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) will get to know each other quite well in the upcoming episodes of the show. His title will come later as though history remembers him as Prince Albert, he was not given the "prince consort" title until much later in 1857 which is almost 13 years after he and Victoria got married.

Albert will replace Lord Melbourne. This might however, not be surprising for the keen viewers of the show, but the replacement is not immediate as he was only acting as the Queen's private secretary  after the death of Lord Melbourne, The BBC reports.

It is still not clear if the queen will address the infamous rumors of genital piercing and it is unknown if the rumors are true. Although it has been previously reported that Queen Victoria's husband pierced his nether regions before their marriage, others report that she supposedly made him get it pierced.

There are other unconfirmed stories that it was not actually the queen nor Albert but their son, also known Prince Albert, who started the trend. There seems to be no real fact with regards to these stories but viewers of the show will just have to wait to find out if the myth will be included in the storyline.

Prince Albert died of typhoid on December 14, 1861 and Queen Victoria remained in mourning until her final days. She commissioned many monuments in his honor, including the Royal Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens completed in 1876.  "Victoria" Season 1 airs on PBS every Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
