Kylie Cox, Bride, Saves Wedding Guest's Life With A Kiss: CPR At Wedding Reception In UK
Generally, you shouldn't lock lips at your own wedding with someone other than the groom, but in Kylie Cox's case, it was the difference between life and death.
At Kylie and Russell Cox's wedding reception, at the cliff-top Carlyon Bay Hotel, in St Austell, Cornwall, UK, a guest suddenly collapsed as he was dancing and Kylie, who works as a nurse, gave the man CPR, according to the Daily Mirror.
Kylie was still in her wedding dress and dancing with her 28-year-old friend when he keeled over in front of 160 family and friends at the reception, the Daily Mirror reports. She managed to keep him alive by using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, with the help of a bridesmaid and her uncle, until the paramedics arrived.
"Our friend asked me for a dance, but while we were on the dance floor, he complained of feeling faint," Kylie explained, according to the Daily Mirror. "I turned round to get him a chair and he collapsed. I rushed over and gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. A bridesmaid, who is also a nurse, did the same and my uncle and another guest joined in to give him chest compression until the ambulance arrived. "
The Epoch Times reports that a 2010 study found that mouth-to-mouth CPR is equally as effective as the hands-only chest-pumping method. Modern CPR utilizing chest-pumping and mouth-to-mouth has been around for a half a century, but the New England Journal of Medicine said that chest-pumping is more important, the Epoch Times reports.
"Eliminating mouth-to-mouth from CPR may make a layperson less reticent to act and if they act, they can save a life. Chest compression alone is simpler and intuitively easier." said Dr. Thomas Rea, the leader of the 2010 study, according to the Epoch Times.
The newlyweds abandoned the party and rushed to the hospital where there friend was being treated, the Daily Mirror reports. "Me and Russell spent the first night of our marriage at the hospital, because we didn't know whether our friend was going to live or die," Kylie said. "The doctors told us it was a miracle he survived."
"The party was due to go on till late, but when me and Russell left at 8.30pm, my dad sent everybody home as he thought our friend was going to die," said Kylie, according to the Daily Mirror.
Kylie explained that her friend had only had one drink all day and that was while her was driving, the Daily Mirror reports."He's still in hospital, but he's going to make a full recovery," she said. The cause of his collapse my have been a heart attack, according to the International Design Times.
Kylie and Russell Cox, from Par, Cornwall, said that they would like to have a repeat reception for their family and friends, according to the Daily Mirror. Their original venue hosts up to 160 guests and has rooms that cost up to $430 per night, according to Enstarz.
