Chris Kelly one half of the '90's hip-hop duo Kris Kross died at Atlanta Medical Center on Wednesday of an apparent drug overdose at his home, authorities said, according to USA Today.

"It appears it may have been a possible drug overdose," said Cpl. Kay Lester, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County police. However; no official cause of death has been determined, pending an autopsy.

Jermaine Dupri, who discovered the group that made you "Jump," penned an open letter to fans, to share how Chris's death has effected him, referring to Chris as someone who was "like a son."

Chris was known as the Mac Daddy, her and Chris Smith known as Daddy Mac, were discovered as teens at an Atlanta mall. Dupri, head of So So Def Records took the young stars under his wing as he described spending more time Kris Kross than" anyone else."

While Dupri may have helped Kris Kross rise to fame in the '90's, somewhere along the lines Chris started using substances like cocaine and heroine. TMZ, reported that the night before he dies his mother Donna Kelly Pratt, who found her son unresponsive, told police "Chris had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine -- commonly known as "speedballs.""

Donna also confirmed that she had personally taken Kelly home to recover from the drug use ... just as she had done several times before, according to TMZ. Donna told cops Kelly had felt nauseous all morning before passing out. Chris did he last radio interview via telephone with an Atlanta radio station the day before he passes away.
