‘Pokémon GO’ News and Update: Gen 2 Pokémon Finally Released

In what seemed like forever, Niantic has finally let loose Generation 2 Pokémon for the mobile game "Pokémon GO". Adding more than 80 species of Pokémon from "Pokémon Gold and Silver" this marks the most number of Pokémon added since its launch last July.

As Tech Crunch reported, other things that will be added to "Pokémon GO" along with the said Pokémon are new evolution items, which could be obtained through Pokestops. The new items do make sense, as some Gen 2 Pokémon, like Scizor, Kingdra and Steelix need additional items to evolve. The Pokémon are also released in the wild, not randomly hatched through eggs like the release of the baby Pokémon some time back.

New berries are also added to help trainers, like the Nanab berries that slow down Pokémon and the Pinap berries that double the amount of candy that received for a successful catch. New wardrobe options are also provided to the player's avatar, creating a better gaming experience for "Pokémon GO" players.

Back to the additional Pokémon for "Pokémon GO", while it was announced that more than 80 species will be released, it did not state if legendaries, like the Legendary Beasts, Ho-oh and Lugia would be included. If Niantic is playing the same cards as with their Gen 1 release, then those legendaries would be kept for a future release.

With the welcome addition of new items and Pokémon, some of the sought-after mechanics are still missing from the recent release of "Pokémon GO". According to Forbes, trading and player-vs-player is still not available, two of the game mechanics that made the original series a standout.

After its successful release in July 2016, "Pokémon GO" gradually lost its steam, with the missing mechanics and slow addition of new Pokémon being the culprit. Recently, "Pokémon GO" has been gaining traction, with more events being added by Niantic to keep its player base engaged.
