Showrunner Talks ‘Timeless’ Season 2; Confirms Rufus Alive In Season 1 Finale
Showrunner Eric Kripke addressed questions whether "Timeless" will get a Season 2 in a recent interview. He also confirmed that Rufus is alive in the Season 1 Finale of "Timeless," although Rufus struggles being a pilot.
The last episode of the NBC series left Rufus with a gunshot wound, which worried fans about his return to the show. Fortunately, Kripke confirmed that he lives and returns in the Season 1 Finale of "Timeless." However, he will be unable to pilot the Oculus alone because of his wound.
"He's one of our main characters and a popular one, and we're not going to kill him. So as long as there's a Timeless, Malcolm [Barrett] has a reasonable amount of job security," Kripke told TV Line.
Kripke acknowledged the fans' concerns about the character. He assured that the gunshot wound does not automatically confirm that Rufus is dead in the Season 1 Finale of "Timeless." Instead, Kripke told Entertainment Weekly that it only shows the danger Rufus and the team faces each time they go on their time travel missions. It cements the fact that there are bound to be obstacles.
Fans can now rest assured that Rufus is alive in the Season 1 Finale of "Timeless." However, he is not perfectly healthy. The gunshot wound prevents him from piloting the Oculus by himself. According to Kripke, this is when he finds help in some unexpected places. In turn, this change in Rufus' storyline steers the show to a new direction.
Aside from Rufus' survival, fans are also wondering about the fate of the series. Will there be a Season 2 after the Season 1 Finale of "Timeless"? Kripke is optimistic that NBC will renew the show. However, he admitted that he would not know for sure until the network gives the green light. He said the confirmation would come in two or three months.
