"NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17 may see Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs take Leon Vance's offer as NCIS Director. Spoilers for "What Lies Above" hinted at Vance's decision to resign from his post for a career in politics.

According to spoilers from Spoilers Guide, it may be Vance's (Rocky Carroll) last stint as NCIS Director in "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17. He may have a change of career after "What Lies Above." In this episode, Congresswoman Fleming (Mary Stuart Masterson) tries to convince Vance to switch careers. She wants Director Vance to enter politics.

Congresswoman Fleming's offer certainly intrigues Director Vance. Spoilers for "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17, "What Lies Above," hint he may have found a replacement. In case he does enter a career in politics, he can at least be assured that someone qualified and deserving takes his place.

Of course, this person is no other than Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Fans may remember that Vance already offered the position of NCIS Director to Gibbs in a previous episode. At that time, he has not even resigned from his post yet. It seems a final push from Congresswoman Fleming in "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17 may finally convince Vance to tender his resignation.

Regardless, it is up to Agent Gibbs if he wants to exchange a life of adventure on the field for a life behind the desk. He may just accept Vance offer to be NCIS Director in "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17, given his age. Perhaps it is time, that he let the younger generation to the fieldwork.

It is interesting to point out that this storyline in "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17 coincides with speculations about Harmon's declining health. Fans took notice of his frail looks on TV and expressed their concern on Twitter. His sickly appearance led to speculations that he is leaving the show.

Regardless, Harmon has yet to confirm rumors about his exit on the show. He admitted in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that "NCIS" is bound to end at some point. However, what is important now is to enjoy time on the show and not think about its end.

Perhaps, if Gibbs becomes NCIS Director then Harmon would not have as much screen time compared to when he was Agent Gibbs. This shift in Gibbs' story in "NCIS" Season 14 Episode 17 may just offer Harmon more time to focus on his health.
