‘The Simpsons’ To Be Inducted Into Baseball Hall of Fame for 'Homer at the Bat' Anniversary

"The Simpsons" fans will have a reason to celebrate this year. It will be the twenty-fifth anniversary of the show's episode "Homer at the Bat". In recognition of that 1992 episode, the National Baseball Hall of Fame reported that it will recognize and honor the show this May.

"The Simpsons" has been around since 1989 when it debuted as a half-hour primetime show. One of its episodes was "Homer at the Bat", which premiered on Feb. 20, 1992. In that episode, Mr. Burns and Mr. Smithers gathered a team to take on the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball. The episode featured Steve Sax, Jose Canseco, Ozzie Smith, Ken Griffey Jr., Roger Clemens, Don Mattingly, Wade Boggs, Mike Scioscia, and Darryl Strawberry.

Although "The Simpsons" did another baseball episode titled "MoneyBart" in 2010, it did not achieve the same fame as "Homer at the Bat", CBS Sports reported. In recognition of the classic episode, the National Baseball Hall of Fame will honor the animated series on May 27.

During the May round-table discussion, players Wade Boggs and Ozzie Smith will make an appearance. The session will also include "The Simpsons" executive producers Al Jean and Mike Reiss, the executive story editor Jeff Martin, the casting director Bonnie Pietila, and the director Jim Reardon, according to USA Today.

The show's crew never expected to gain the chance to be inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame 25 years after their baseball episode aired. "The Simpsons" producer Al Jean even said, "When I struck out in tee-ball, I never dreamed I'd make it to the Hall of Fame. It shows what not following your dreams can do."

The Hall of Fame induction on May 27 will be open to all. It will be followed by the grand opening of a "The Simpsons" exhibit in the baseball museum. The show parodies the average American life and it's currently airing its Season 28 episodes.
