Reports confirm that after serving out a two-year jail sentence, rapper Ja Rule was just released from a New York federal prison on Tuesday morning (May 7). The popular musician/actor (real name, Jeffrey Atkins) was charged with attempted illegal gun possession and tax evasion back in 2011 (sentences which he concurrently served). According to TMZ, Ja Rule must remain under house confinement until July 28. Ja Rule' a free man! Sort of...

Sources confirm that Ja Rule's wife picked the 37-year-old Queens native up from New York's Ray Brook Federal Prison at approximately 10 a.m. on Tuesday. They immediately drove back to the couple's home, where Ja Rule must remain in confinement until July 28.

The former Def Jam/Murder Inc. star plead guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in 2010 stemming from an incident that took place in 2007. At the time, cops found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his car - the rapper eventually turned himself in June 2011. While imprisoned, Ja was slammed with another charge - this time for tax evasion. From 2004-2006, Ja Rule failed to pay taxes on over $3 million in earnings. He was sentenced to 28 months in jail for that crime. Ja was released from jail regarding the possession charge back in February, but was immediately placed back in federal custody to complete his sentence for tax evasion. He served both charges concurrently.

Although Ja Rule is reportedly eager to return back to work, he allegedly still owes over $1 million in back taxes.
