The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are planning to renovate their home. But "home" for them means the Kensington Palace and renovations means spending 10M pounds of taxes, paid by the people of England. Will Queen Elizabeth stand for such reckless expenditure of the public money by her family?

Prince William's contract to serve as the pilot for East Anglian Air Ambulance ends in the fall, after which he plans to move with his wife and children to London and take on more serious royal duties. Till now, the 22-room Apartment 1A inside the Kensington Palace was the official residence for the royal couple.

The prince and princess have installed 6.2 million pounds worth of renovations back in 2013, a year prior to moving into Kensington Palace permanently. Now that they are ready to stay at the palace full-time, they have decided to get more renovations done to make space for their expanded family, which now includes 3-year-old Prince George and 1-year-old Princess Charlotte, Observer reports.

Hence, a two-storey 'iceberg' basement is all set to get built underground, which will "free up the palace suites for the Royal Family," reports Mail Online. The 1,500 square feet extension will host an array of offices for the royal staff, a ceremonial dress wardrobe and a couple of reception rooms opening into the royal garden.

According to architects, the lavish extensions finished with skylights, may cost the royal family 10M pounds. And as always, the renovation funds will come out of the pockets of their royal subjects, the common folk of England.

This has reportedly displeased Queen Elizabeth, who does not approve of such costly upgrades to the Kensington Palace, especially since it just went through an array of renovations a few years ago, Enstarz reports. Queen Elizabeth is busy finalizing home renovations of her own, in the Buckingham Palace, which will allegedly take 10 years to complete and cost around 374M pounds.

She might be afraid that the royal family might get riled up in controversy again for squandering the taxpayer money for fulfilling their own luxurious lifestyle. However, there is little that she can do since Prince William and Kate Middleton are the future king and queen of England.
