J.K. Simmons is appearing in one of DC's biggest movies yet, "Justice League." The Academy Award-winning actor will appear in it as Commissioner Gordon, an iconic "Batman" character, although he is unsure when which movie his character will be in next.

The 62-year-old, who has been in other superhero movies like "Spider-Man," said that his role in the upcoming DC film will be small. J.K. Simmons said that the upcoming superhero team-up movie "Justice League" will only introduce Commissioner Gordon. Hence, the role he will play will be minimal. However, fans would still be able to see him in sequels as he plays a vital part in Batman's life. But even the actor himself does not know when his next DC acting stint would be.

Speaking to ScreenCrush, J.K. Simmons said that either "The Batman" or a "Justice League" sequel are possibilities for Commissioner Gordon's next appearance. The "Whiplash" Best Supporting Actor also added that he thought the next caped crusader would be his next project. However, he also explained that titles are being mixed up at the moment, so there is no surety in that.

According to Comic Book, though, DC fans hope that J.K. Simmons will reprise his Commissioner Gordon role before "Justice League 2." After all, the sequel is not expected to arrive at movie theaters worldwide until June 2019. And two years is certainly a long time for an iconic and essential character to reappear on-screen.

J.K. Simmons remains optimistic, though. The man who played the jazz-hater in "La La Land" hopes to take on other comic-book character roles before he puts on the mantle of Commissioner Gordon again. In fact, there is a remote possibility that he will put on the mustache of J. Jonah Jameson again for another "Spiderman" reboot. But he said it would likely not happen, as it would not be Sam Raimi's creation.
