"Man of Steel 2" is definitely happening, and Henry Cavill will be back to play Superman. There is little information on the project so far, but recent reports suggest that Warner Bros. is eyeing Matthew Vaughn to direct the sequel.

Collider reported that "Kingsman: The Secret Service" director Matthew Vaughn is Warner Bros.' top choice to helm "Man of Steel 2." Although no final offer has been made, it is said that both parties have undergone preliminary conversations about the project.

While they aren't at a deal-making stage yet, sources say even if Vaughn doesn't get "Man of Steel 2," it is likely that Warner Bros. will bring him in to direct another movie in the DC Comics Extended Universe.

This isn't the first time Vaughn's name is being associated with a "Superman" movie. Vaughn and "Kick-Ass" comic writer Mark Millar submitted a pitch for "Superman" to Warner Bros. in 2010. The studio, however, went for the output written by Christopher Nolan and David So. Goyer.

At that time, Vaughn hinted at what would've been their vision for Henry Cavill's Superman, which is far from what viewers saw in "Man of Steel."

"I think that's the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious 'The Dark Knight' version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me," Vaughn said.

If ever Vaughn does get to take the reins on "Man of Steel 2," fans could expect the movie to be lighter and more fun than its predecessor. His past films clearly indicate that Vaughn has a penchant for adding action and humor into a solid storyline.

Aside from "Kingsman," he also directed "X-Men: First Class." He also wrote "X-Men: Days of Future Past." These three films aren't as dark and serious as "Man of Steel," but nevertheless still gave the films the kind of depth they deserved.

Meanwhile, Vaughn's "Kingsman 2" is hitting theaters this year. According to Yahoo Movies, the movie has been scheduled for an October 6 release. "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry and Jeff Bridges.
