On last night's episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen dedicated the whole show to The Great Gatsby. Turning his show into a book club-type episode, Stephen decided to take on The Great Gatsby. The episode involved interviews with the film's director Baz Luhrmann and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan. What we quickly learned at the start of the show is that Stephen did not come prepared for his discussion of The Great Gatsby.

Here is Stephen Colbert's introduction to last night's special, "Colbert's Book Club" The Great Gatsby-themed episode:

As you can tell by the host's tone of voice when talking about actually reading the book, he did not actually read the book in preparation for tonight's episode. So the Comedy Central host enlists the help of Academy award winning actress Carey Mulligan to help with learning about the great story. Unfortunately, Mulligan eventually admits to not reading the book. Also she cannot read at all and just moves her lips while filming movies. The two then track down LeVar Burton and have a quick Reading Rainbowi segment.

What we discover from this great clip is that Carey Mulligan is pretty funny and LeVar Burton is always up for a good Reading Rainbow joke. Watch this clip right here:

So Stephen decides to actually read the book and manages to finish it during the commercial break. Great! He is now ready for his discussion with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan.

This discussion (accompanied by a hefty glass of chardonnay) proceeds like a normal Colbert interview and gets to the point about The Great Gatsby.  Stephen even draws a parallel between himself and Gatsby!

If you have not read this book, do not watch this next clip. There are plenty of SPOILERS throughout. But if you have read the book, enjoy this interview:

Stephen then interviewed director Baz Luhrmann about the new film:
