Katy Perry Reportedly Slams Taylor Swift For Not Taking A Political Stand

Katy Perry took a subtle dig at Taylor Swift recently during an interview when she declared that she does not respect musicians who do not use their platform to promote their beliefs. Even though Perry never mentions Swift by name, a number of sources have speculated that the comments were meant for the latter.

"I don't think you have to shout it [your political views] from the rooftops, but I think you have to stand for something," Perry said in the interview with Vogue. "If you're not standing for anything, you're really just serving yourself, period, end of story."

The political beliefs of the "Roar" singer were amply established during the 2016 US Elections when she actively participated in Hillary Clinton's campaign and also performed at the DNC. Even her latest single, "Chained To The Rhythm" speaks volumes about her political standpoint.

During the interview, Perry even mentioned that the days of her singing fluff pieces like "California Gurls," which was her first claim to fame, are long over. Even though she does not dismiss the need for people seeking escapism through music, she feels that the musicians have a much bigger responsibility to uphold in today's politically charged atmosphere of the United States.

Taylor Swift, on the other hand, has often been accused of deliberately choosing to not take a definite political stand, or fighting for some important cause through her music, The Daily Beast reports. Even when the "Bad Blood" singer supported Kesha in her domestic violence case against Doctor Luke, she chose to do it in a silent manner by donating towards her cause instead of speaking out openly regarding it.

Taylor Swift has been called a "spineless" feminist in the past, who is afraid of voicing her opinions aloud. Demi Lovato even challenged her to take the issues she wants to support to the Capitol Hill if she really wants to make a difference. This maybe the reason that people have assumed that the Katy Perry's comments might have been an indirect diss at Swift.
