It's finally here, folks: the moment we've been forcing ourselves to watch for for at least the last 3 seasons. The mother of Ted Mosby's children was revealed on last night's  How I Met Your Mother, the season 8 finale "Something New." Who is she? Why none other than actress Cristin Milioti.

Milioti is revealed to be the mother right as Ted Mosby is giving up on finding love in NYC. He tells Lily (Alyson Hannigan) that he is leaving the Big Apple for Chicago immediately after the day of Barney and Robin's wedding. Cut to the train station, and we see Milioti (with yellow umbrella and bass guitar in tow) buying a ticket to Farhampton, the site of the pending nuptials.

If you will remember, last season ended with Ted in the rain at the Farhampton station when the mother steps out of a cab with her yellow umbrella.

It is unclear whether this is how Ted and Mrs. Ted will meet, or if they will meet at the wedding. It has been revealed previously that Ted's wife played in the band at Barney and Robin's wedding.

There are a number of reasons why you may recognize Milioti. She played in the Broadway musical Once and she's been a cast member on shows like The Sopranos, 30 Rock, The Good Wife and Nurse Jackie.

Her role on 30 Rock, as a women living under an assumed identity on the run from a crazed ex-husband, has already led to some wild fan theories.

Carter Bays, executive producer of HIMYM had this to say about the selection and reveal of the mother:

"It was a pretty big umbrella to fill, casting the title role in a series that's been on the air for eight years,"

"And yet Cristin Milioti is, against all odds, exactly what we were looking for. She made us laugh on "30 Rock," she made us swoon in "Once," and her ukulele skills are no joke.

"We're thrilled to welcome her to the "How I Met Your Mother" family, and look forward to getting to know her - and the character she plays - much better in the coming final season.

"And to all the fans, on behalf of all of us writers, cast and crew: Thank you for sticking with us on this wild journey. Our ninth season will tell the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever. We hope you like it. Next stop, Farhampton."

Of course, this means that a sizeable chunk, if not the entirety of next season, will be set during the wedding. Which could be interesting, or excruciating.
