Getting behind the wheel while under the influence is a major offense in America, however many celebrities make the crucial mistake of attempting to drive while under the influence. NFL Quarter Back Josh Portis, of the Seattle Seahawks is a recent violator, as a test revealed that his blood alcohol level was higher than the legal limit.

According to Philly.com, Portis was pulled over after allegedly speeding on May 5, and tested a blood alcohol level of .092 -- higher than Washington's limit of .08.

About 9: 30 p.m. that day, a Washington State Patrol trooper pulled over Portis on the express lanes of the Interstate 90 floating bridge after clocking the Range Roger he was driving at 80 mph as it left the Mount Baker Tunnel eastbound, in a 60-mph zone, according to a police report.

The police report also noted that when the officer approached Portis' window he has "watery bloodshot eyes," and there was "a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle."

Meanwhile Portis attempted to use his celebrity status to avoid legal action.  According to Seattle PI Blog, the tropper wrote in his report:

"Portis asked me if I knew who he was and I stated yes," the trooper wrote in the report. "(The passenger) exited the vehicle and began to cry. (The passenger) stated I was arresting a Seahawk, and I was going to ruin him. ... (The passenger) shouted at me and stated she couldn't believe that I was from Seattle, and was arresting a Seahawk."

Portis, 25, will appear May 28 at the Redmond Courthouse for arraignment. The 25-year-old football star signed a new two-year contract for $480,000 a year in April.
