'Ghost Recon,' Future Soldier, Future Film? Michael Bay to Direct Film Adaptation of Hit Video Game Series?
One of the biggest titles in video games, "Ghost Recon," will be heading for theaters in the near future and game producer Ubisoft has a big-name director in mind: Michael Bay.
The company confirmed that Bay will be in charge of the movie's development for Warner Brothers, but no one has confirmed that he'll also feature as director. Bay himself was less than coy however, retweeting several messages from fans who drooled over the idea of him helping the flick.
"Having one of Hollywood's boldest feature film directors attached to bringing Ghost Recon to the big screen is a dream come true for us," said Ubisoft Motion Pictures chief executive officer Jean-Julien Baronnet in a press release.
"Bold" is certainly one way to describe Bay. The director is both renowned and notorious for blowing things up during his films, which include "Bad Boys II" and the "Transformers" series. "Ghost Recon," which is based on work by Tom Clancy, puts more emphasis on tactical military operations. But hey. Ridley Scott already produced a short film version for the G4 channel last year, and nobody's ruling him out.
Ubisoft has several other film adaptations in the works, including "Assasin's Creed" with Michael Fassbender starring, and "Splinter Cell" with Tom Hardy. Ubisoft is reportedly looking for screenwriters and will begin looking for actors soon.
Bay in the meantime is continuing work on the fourth "Transformers" movie.
