Jiah Khan Dead, Bollywood UPDATE: Salman Khan Denies Advising Suraj Pancholi Amid 'Abetting Suicide' Charges

Actor Salman Khan, who's been reported to be a mentor-type figure to Suraj Pancholi, is trying to distance himself from the current scandal involving Pancholi and Bollywood actress Jiah Khan (no relation). Jiah committed suicide on June 3 and Pancholi was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide.

Police seized six letters that Jiah had written to her mother, Rabiya, prior to committing the act. Although the actress did not give a name in the letter, she accused an anonymous figure of committing abuses and raping her. Rabiya stated that Jiah had facial injuries around the time that she and Pancholi split, and that she was sure the actor was responsible.

She furthered her charges, alleging that Salman was so invested in Pancholi's success that he advised the young star's father to intervene in the relationship with Jiah, and in doing so also encouraged her suicide. Salman denied any involvement of the sort.

"I was not even aware of Suraj and Jiah's relationship," Salman said. "I got to know of it through a news magazine."

The story has continued to amplify in Mumbai, where several pieces of evidence were released last week that fed interest in the story. First, several letters believed to have been written by Jiah, including a suicide note, were released. Then police indicated that they had obtained records from a hospital that confirmed claims written by Jiah that she had obtained an abortion for a child conceived with Pancholi.

Pancholi remains in prison for the time being, waiting a bail decision.

An excerpt from her tragic suicide note can be read below.

"When I first met you I was driven, ambitious and disciplined. Then I fell for you, a love I thought would bring out the best in me. I don't know why destiny brought us together. After all the pain, the rape, the abuse, the torture I have seen previously I didn't deserve this. I didn't see any love or commitment from you. I just became increasingly scared that you would hurt me mentally or physically. Your life was about partying and women. Mine was you and my work. If I stay here I will crave you and miss you. So I am kissing my 10-year career and dreams goodbye."
