The Avengers 2: Edgar Wright Confirms Hank Pym in ‘Ant-Man’ Movie Despite Not Appearing in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
It seems as though Dr. Hank Pym will have a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.
Edgar Wright, writer and director of the upcoming Ant-Man movie, confirmed in an interview with io9 that Pym would appear in the Ant-Man film. The site wrote the following about the reveal:
"This isn't exactly a huge bombshell - we'd sort of assumed that Pym would turn up in Ant-Man. But given that Wright has described Ant-Man as a film about a "badass secret agent" in the past, it seems reasonable to imagine the film's main character will be Scott Lang, the reformed criminal who inherits the Ant-Man headgear and identity. You could theoretically do an Ant-Man movie in which Scott Lang gets the Ant-Man gear from Stark International, where he actually worked at one point in the comics. Or just have him find it in a storage locker on the SHIELD helicarrier, the way Eric O'Grady did."
As MStars previously reported, Joss Whedon revealed at San Diego Comic Con 2013 that Pym/Ant-Man will not be in The Avengers sequel.
In the comics, Ultron was an artificial intelligence created by Dr. Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man) that went rogue and tried to destroy the Avengers on numerous occasions. Whedon also said that Ultron would have a different origin story in the film. One possible theory that fans have floated around is that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark would be the genius to create the robot in the movie.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man are set for releases in 2015.
