Lady Gaga: 'ARTPOP' App Not Subject To Same #NewRules As Jay Z's 'Magna Carta Holy Grail,' In-App Sales Of Mother Monster's New Album Will Count

As with all things in life, the #NewRules don't apply to everybody. That's what Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said on Twitter, anyway. Lady Gaga's in-app sales will count toward her ARTPOP sales total unlike Jay-Z, whose Magna Carta Holy Grail was released via a free app and paid for by Samsung. The key difference lies in the fact that Gaga fans will still have to purchase the album in-app, even if Mother Monster's experimental app itself is free.

(Bill Werde is also fielding many more questions about ARTPOP's release on his Twitter. Check it out.)

Lady Gaga released a few more details surrounding the ARTPOP app earlier this week, calling the app an interactive jewel case and mentioning that it will serve as a social network for ARTPOP listeners.
