'The Avengers 2' Casting Rumors & Spoilers [PHOTO]: Joss Whedon & Marvel Want Elizabeth Olsen for Scarlet Witch Role in 2015's 'Age of Ultron'
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be introducing some new characters on the big screen from the Marvel universe and director Joss Whedon apparently has one actress in mind for one of them. Scarlet Witch is set to appear in the 2015 summer blockbuster, but there have yet to be any official casting news surrounding the character, but there are rumors. The latest bit of gossip places actress Elizabeth Olsen at the top of Marvel's list for the character.
According to reports, Saoirse Ronan was the desired actress for the role but she has passed on the part. Joss Whedon apparently had her in mind while coming up with the character. Now Whedon and Marvel have apparently moved onto their second choice, Elizabeth Olsen.
Bleeding Cool first broke this story. Here is an excerpt:
As I understand it, Olsen would need to adopt a "European" accent for the role, but that's not such a big deal. Tougher will be standing her ground amidst an established cast of top-drawer actors and crowd pleasers that everybody in the audience already loves from the first Avengers film, not to mention their own pictures.
But then, she's pretty darn likeable, and it's reputedly a real scene-stealer of a part, so...
In short, I think it's coming up roses for the Scarlet Witch. Now let's see if Olsen ends up officially signed on...
What do you think of this casting rumor? Do you think Olsen will be a good Scarlet Witch?
Scarlet Witch's brother, Quicksilver, also appears in Age of Ultron. When Kick-Ass 2 star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was asked about how he's rumored to be taking on the role, he said the following:
"No, it's not 100% yet. It's not official. You've got to remember that they start filming next year in February or March or something like that so we're still a long way away. It's all in discussion and in a friendly way as well. You know, I've met with Joss Whedon now twice and we spoke about it a lot and I've been with the Marvel guys and they're f*cking awesome dudes, so I am flattered to be asked to be a part ofThe Avengers. Who wouldn't? But more importantly to me, I have to know if I can convey that character in the right way because that's what it comes down to. So that's all for now, really. They still have loads of other characters and actors to make sure they can schedule and stuff ... I'd f*cking love to do it."
