During One Direction's speech at the 2013 VMAs last weekend, Taylor Swift was spotted in the crowd allegedly wispering "shut the f#ck up" to gal pal Selena Gomez. The Harry Styles "diss" quickly went viral online - check it out:

But according to Swift's good friend (and fellow "Red" tour buddy) Ed Sheeran, the songstress' foul language wasn't meant to "offend" the boys of 1D. In fact, the "22" beauty was referring to Gomez's "Best Pop Video" beef with Miley Cyrus!

According to Sheeran, Swift cursed when the "Come & Get It" songstress said that Cyrus was bound to win the award for best pop video. Both former Disney sweethearts were nominated, and 21-year-old Gomez ultimately ended up snagging the Moon Man. Apparently Swift knew that would be the outcome, because she whispered "shut the f#ck up" after Gomez said she'd probably lose.

Get it?

After the show, Swift apparently approached Sheeran and told him "I think I messed up," knowing that her f-bomb had been caught on camera.

So no - Swift didn't diss her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles. And no, she didn't tell Gomez "sorry for my arm." She did mutter the phrase "shut the f#ck up," but it was aimed more towards Cyrus' VMAs loss!
