Lauryn Hill has released a new 2013 song titled "Consumerism." Within 24 hours, Hill was released from federal prison and released a new single. Impressive. The former Fugees singer left federal prison on Friday, a few days earlier than expected, according to Forbes. The singer was sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion, but apparently her good behavior got her out a few days early. Meanwhile, the Grammy winner has released her second single this year. Keep reading to listen to "Consumerism."

Tax evasion, prison, and two singles. Hill has had a busy 2013. Hill previously released the song "Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)" back in May after signing a $1 million deal with Sony. Her latest single "Consumerism" is part of material that the singer says she tried to finish before going into prison. Read Hill's statement (via All Hip Hop) regarding the single "Consumerism" below:

"'Consumerism' is part of some material I was trying to finish before I had to come in. We did our best to eek out a mix via verbal and emailed direction, thanks to the crew of surrogate ears on the other side. Letters From Exile is material written from a certain space, in a certain place. I felt the need to discuss the underlying socio-political, cultural paradigm as I saw it. I haven't been able to watch the news too much recently, so I'm not hip on everything going on. But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens. I couldn't imagine it not being relevant. Messages like these I imagine find their audience, or their audience finds them, like water seeking it's level."

Obviously it seems like Hill is ready to get back to work and hit the studio, which is great news for her fans. When asked about what Hill is planning on doing now that is out of prison the CEO of her record company, Chris Schwartz said (via Forbes) that, "Ms. Hill is ready to get back to work."
