The bizarre yet beautiful mash-up of Square Enix and Disney properties will receive yet another remake when Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix launches next year for the Playstation 3.

Square Enix made the announcement on Monday that Kingdom Hearts II, the smash hit that came out on the Playstation 2 in 2005 in Japan and 2006 in North America, would receive the HD Remix treatment. The game will include Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

Square released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix earlier this year and that game featured Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and all the cinematic cutscenes in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. The credits of HD 1.5 Remix featured video clips from the three games included in the HD 2.5 Remix bundle, but Square made the announcement official this week.

A post on the PS Blog revealed that the original Kingdom Hearts game has now sold more than 20 million units worldwide, likely with the help of HD 1.5 Remix. Series producer Shinji Hashimoto told IGN recently that an HD remake of Kingdom Hearts II could be in the cards depending the reaction to HD 1.5 Remix. The positive reception likely urged Square to forge ahead with the KH2 remake.

This bundle will also feature the first official releases of the Final Mix versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep (which came out for the PSP in 2010) outside of Japan. These versions contain extra cutscenes, more gameplay and additional boss battles.

Kingdom Hearts re:coded will receive the same treatment that 358/2 Days did in the first bundle. The game will not be playable on HD 2.5 Remix, but fans will be able to watch all of the cinematic cutscenes from the Nintendo DS game.
