Ryan Murphy Reveals Kathy Bates' Future on American Horror Story Coven

This week's episode of American Horror Story: Coven threw another twist into the proceedings when Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) took Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) to Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) and locked her in a cage. One minute the two were sharing cheeseburgers at a drive-thru, and the next Queenie betrays the immortal racist and turns her over to her sworn enemy.

In his weekly post-mortem with EW.com, series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Madame LaLaurie is going to have an extremely rough time in Marie Laveau's custody:

"Well I just think now that Marie Laveau has her back she is going to make her life a living hell and she's going to get her revenge. I think if LaLaurie thought living underground for all eternity was hell she hasn't seen nothing yet! It's sort of an interesting synthesis of the rock up the hill idea because she can't die. So Marie Laveau can really make her pay over and over and over again and feel pain and yet not die. So we have a lot of interesting episodes dealing with that."

Part of the episode also dealt with Queenie's feeling that the coven would never accept her because she's black, and so she ultimately decided to side with Marie Laveau and her voodoo ways. Murphy also said that the show would delve deeper into that issue in the coming weeks:

"So in the next episode is Queenie fully immersed in the voodoo witches?
Yes she's trying to acclimate with that culture. She finds it both liberating but the truth of the matter is she does miss her friends over at the Robichaux house. She's a lady torn."

American Horror Story: Coven airs at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays on FX.
